Care, Education, Community

“I have come that you may have life: life in all its fullness.” John 10:10

About the Centre

Operating since January 2015, the Denis Hurley Centre has built on a century-long tradition of using this site for Care, Education and Community.
We continue the legacy of the life and work of the late Archbishop Denis Hurley.

About Denis Hurley

Catholic Archbishop, Denis Hurley, was a courageous opponent of South Africa’s apartheid regime for 50 years, dubbed the “Guardian of the Light” by Alan Paton. Within the Church, he was a champion of the reforms and spirit of the Second Vatican Council in South Africa and around the world.

About Our Projects

We provide a range of services at the Denis Hurley Centre to respond to the needs of marginalised groups in inner-city Durban especially homeless people and refugees. People of all faiths and nationalities work here side by side to help all communities.
