Future projects

Future programmes being planned include:

Workshops on "job readiness” to help unemployed people learn how to write a CV, how to behave in a job interview and how to look for work. JobLinx also finds jobs for these trainees and mentors them in the first few months of their employment, as well as checking out with employers how things are going.

Basic introduction to Computing
The Computer Room generously donated by Polish Aid will soon be equipped and offering a 1-week for computer beginners at a cost of R150-200 per person.
Saturday School
One idea being explored for 2016 is that of offering a Saturday School (as opposed to a Sunday School!) to help students preparing for Matric to improve in key areas like Mathematics and Science.

An after-school programme for primary age children left unsupervised between 2pm and 5pm based on the one that is already run at the YMCA in Albert Park. We are exploring the idea of working with the YMCA team to create a similar programme for the Warwick Junction area.

Health Education
After an initial pilot with DUT on dental health, we are planning from 2016 a series of health education days to give people advice and simple tests in areas like diabetes, childhood diseases, cancers, etc.

If you are interested in benefiting from any of these planned programmes, or think you can help us deliver them, please contact the Director on 031 301 2240 or email raymond@denishurleycentre.org
